Iranian films attract global audience: Chinese prominent filmmaker

China’s prominent director Jiang Haiying has hailed the Iranian cinema as “unique”, stressing that Iran’s movies attract sizeable global audience.

Referring to the participation of several Iranian filmmakers in this year’s edition of the Shanghai International Film Festival, Haiying stressed the importance of boosting cooperation between the two countries.

He noted that Iranian and Chinese cultures and arts have many things in common that create the basis for cinematic cooperation.

The renowned director described Iranian films as “very distinguished”, noting that Iranian movies with their simplicity and uniqueness attract many people across the world.

“We can’t ignore Iranian cinema,” he said, adding Iranians make films that prevail the world.

Haiying noted that many people in several countries, including China, love Iranian films and enjoy watching them.

He reiterated his country’s interest in strengthening cinematic cooperation with Iran.

The 22nd edition of the Shanghai International Film Festival began on June 15 and is set to run until June 24, 2019.

Ten Iranian movies are participating at the event.
